GRAPHIC DESIGN / ILLUSTRATION / TRANSLATION

Using vector illustration and my knowledge of Spanish literature and language, this book portrays cities in the Hispanosphere (Spanish speaking world) through the points of view of famous authors associated with these locations. In an attempt to portray each place as its own unique entity- despite their shared characteristic of the Spanish language- the book allows readers and viewers to see these places through the eyes (or views) of those who have called these places home.

Process and development

The curation of the Spanish literary pieces for this project was a precise and investigative process. Each piece was selected for its ability to paint a textual picture of its associated author/poet’s homeland, through that artist’s perspective. Each piece was then translated with regard to the region’s particular culture and vocabulary. Each piece, along with its tone and mood, was then digitally illustrated. These illustrations, along with the Spanish and English literary pieces, were all compiled into a book that was then designed, formatted, and printed. The illustrations themselves were also enlarged and printed separately for display at various art gallery exhibitions.
